The Pond
We moved into our new house in
1993, it was situated in the middle of a cornfield.
In just three summers Chris has transformed it into the oasis you see here.
The pond is 35ft. long and 25ft. wide. We dug the hole and used a liner to contain
the water.
It is surrounded by many different varieties of plants, flowers,
shrubs and trees.
The pond is stocked with approximately one hundred fish,
mostly goldfish and Koi.
There are almost a hundred different
plant varieties that surround the pond,
I will tell you about most of them and show more
pictures in the coming weeks.
We also have a fountain that feeds a waterfall
to aerate the water.
Update.....August 1997
Quite a few things have happened to our pond in the past three years.
We have acquired
about a dozen frogs and toads, their chorus at night
has to be heard to be believed. Our
bedroom is right above the pond. (poor planning eh!)
We have at least five hardy lotus and a couple of tropical water lilies in the pond now.
The frogs enjoy
sunbathing on the leaves in the afternoon.
The hardy lotus can stay in for the
winter months but we have to take out the tropical
plants before the first frost.
Below is a photo of our pond, it was taken in the spring of 1997.
It has changed dramatically since then with the addition of ornamental grasses, water iris,
hyacinth, kingcups and cattails. I will have a new and updated photo soon so keep coming back.
