THE EVIDENCE

There is just too much evidence for the existence of Jesus Christ and His resurrection to take lightly this means for your salvation. The logic to substantiate the basis for Christian faith may not be convincing until you realize that you cannot save yourself, but think about the following. One of the best examples is the faith and life of the Apostle Paul. He was a man brought up in the Jewish tradition who hated the new sect called "The Way". He was so adamant that he was a leader in persecuting the members. Paul (Saul) consented to the stoning and death of Stephen and made "havoc of the church, entering into every house he committed men and women to prison". (Acts 8:3) He was on his way to Damascus to imprison others when he was blinded with a vision of the risen Christ. This experience was so compelling that he became a changed man and his writings form the basis for most of our present doctrine. (The importance of this event is apparent by being mentioned by Luke three times in Acts, 9:3, 22:9, 26:12 and further referenced in St. Paul's letters)

Also think of the great number of witnesses who bore testimony in having seen Jesus after His crucifixion. He appeared first to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that He appeared to more than 500 of the brethren at the same time, most of whom were still living at the time of Paul. Then He appeared to James and then to all the Apostles. (I Cor. 15:5)

Consider also the brothers of Jesus who didn't believe in Him until after His resurrection and then became His disciples. (John 7:5) "To whom also He showed Himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them 40 days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God" (Acts 1:3)

The fact that all of these people willingly faced death or imprisonment for their belief in what they saw is evidence for the truth of their witness. If the death and resurrection of Jesus was a conspiracy or a tale made up by men, the secret of it could not have been kept. There were just too many witnesses of exemplary moral character for the miracle of the resurrection to be anything but the truth. As the Jewish doctor of the law, Gamaliel, said: "But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it" (Acts 5:39) The truth is that in spite of persecutions, bible burnings and all other schemes of mankind we still today have God's word.

Logic is not something that will convince a non-Christian, but when you are feeling low and are really down, confess that you are a sinner and pray that the Lord Jesus will come into your life. Then read ACTS, ROMANS, along with other books of the Bible and you will find that we are all sinners and that our only hope is to trust in Jesus Christ. HE IS THE WAY TO HAPPINESS.
