As a beginner goldfish
owner, you need to decide a few things before you actually buy a
tank and some goldfish.
Go through the following list, which would help you get started.
1. You need to plan your budget, or think about how much you want
to spend.
2. You need to choose where to put your goldfish in: a fishbowl or an
aquarium.
3. Choose what fish species you want to buy. There are a lot of
goldfish types out there. To name a few, there are your common,
comet, koi, moors, etc.
4. Choose a place to put your aquarium. Choose a spot where there
is an ample supply of light, probably near a window. This spot
should be also close to an electurcal outlet for the accessories.
Those include air pumps, water filters, and an aquarium light.
5. Pick what acessories you need. I recommend you at least get an
air pump.. If the aquarium you choose is big enough, you would
probably also want a water purifier. IF you plan to buy a 10
gallon on bigger aquarium, this is a must. Other accessories,
like heaters and vaccuums can be bought but are not needed for
common and comet goldfish. If you choose to buy a special type
goldfish or tropical fish, ask your localpet store about what
other things they think you need.
Please avoid gravel cleaners, such as siphons. They make a bigger
mess then a good clean up job.
6. Decide what decorations you need. First, you need to get some
gravel to help support the decorations and for numerous health
reasons. You might want to buy plants (real or plastic) to give
the tank a natrual affect, and a rock tunnel to give the fish
something to play with.
7. After you make these decisions, go to the pet store and shop
for a while, don't get hanged up on one thing at one store, shop
at different stores and compare and contrast prices, to help you
get the "best buy."
