Evidence in Genealogy Searches

Do not believe everything that is printed in a book. Many family histories and local histories contain inaccuracies caused by sloppy research, wishful thinking, leaping to conclusions, or even out-right fabrication.

Once fabrications or inaccuracies occur in a published genealogy, the error can be repeated over and over again in other books. As a general rule, the "proof" should be based on at least 2 origional records. You should also be dubious of authors who do not cite their sources.
