I have credited James's birth or custody to William, Jr., and Sarah [Dean] Pittman because:
(1) at the time James's birth, they were residing at Old Perlican;
(2) Sarah is the daughter of James Dean and the naming pattern is appropriate; and
(3) at the time, Captain William (Sr.) - the other known Pittman siring children with Trinity connections - is also baptizing them timely and routinely at St. Paul's! The family of William and Sarah [Dean] Pittman appear on the Trinity scene after William's retirement as agent for Garland's at New Perlican in 1830. The Newfoundland and British North America Society of Educating the Poor, for the year 1832-1833, at Trinity, records "Pittman, Mr. James 0 5 0". [The Crewkerne James and Joseph to not arrive in Trinity until the 1850s].
