General Notes: He received a common school education, and throughout his early manhood he followed farming and lumbering. In 1864 he enlisted in Company G. Two Hundred and Seventh Pennsylvania Volunteers, and participated in the battles of Fort Stedman and Petersburg. At the close of the war he purchased his present homestead of seventy acres, upon which he has since lived.
John was a member of Mount Pleasant Evangelical church, and has served as school director for three years. ⁶

John married Elizabeth Schon in 1869 ².
