![]() Matt 8:28-32 "And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way. "And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? Art thou come hither to torment us before the time? "And there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine feeding. "So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine. "And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the swine: And, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters." Did you ever notice in this passage of scriptures, that the devils prayed and they got their prayers answered? Did you ever wonder why they got their prayers answered? I believe there was two things which those devils knew. They knew that since man was made in the image of God, their natural desire would be to be like God, which did not fit their nature. They also knew that the nature of swine was to be dirty, filthy and to wallow in the mire and this fit their nature just right. Notice, when those devils took possession of those two men, they took them to the tombs. They wanted to be just as close to those old dead bodies as they could get. This is the same thing the devil does in this day. As soon as they can get us into their power, they take us to every dirty, filthy place they can find. The nature of swine is to wallow in the mire and God has never required of them anything above their natural nature. When God created us, He place His natrue in us and He only requires us to live to that nature. When Jesus came into that country, not even all those devils could keep those two men away from Him, for the natural desire of those men was Jesus. I believe those devils knew that the nature of those two men were not inclined to their nature, and therefore they knew Jesus would not let them stay there. So, what does these devils do? They begin to look around for something with a nature which was inclined toward them. What did they find? "A herd of swine". Where were those swine? They were a good way off. They were not near at hand, but rather a good way off. Being in the land of Israel, there was most likely sheep closer at hand. If ther was, why did not those devils ask to go into them? Because they knew that the sheep did not have the same kind of nature as they did. Let me say this; There are two things swine love and that is eating and wallowing in the mire But please notice this; When those devils entered those swine, they quit eating and even though their nature is inclined to filth, they did not seek a mud puddle. THOSE DEVILS EVEN MADE THOSE SWINE FEEL DIRTY!!!! Those swine knew it would take more than a mud puddle to get rid of the filth those devils brought with them, so they by-passed every mud puddle and headed straight to the sea where there was much water. If those devils made a bunch of hogs feel dirty, how much more should we, as men and women made in the imange of God, be made to feel our need for cleaning and run to the only place where we can be made clean, The Blood of Christ.
