A Soldier's Responsibilty

II Timothy 2: 4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

There are many people in this life today that desire to be used of our God and to be a Soldier for our God, who yet really does not know what the responsibilities of a soldier is. Therefore not knowing what their duties are, many are ensnared of Satan and turned from the duties that they should be performing and become entangled with the affairs of this life.

Now the only way that we can be a true soldier of our Lord and please Him is to understand what our duties are as soldiers of Christ.

I want to give you an allegory to try and explain what the duty of a soldier of Christ is.

Let’s say that Rome has once again gone into Israel and taken them captive. Rome begins to enforce their laws upon the people of Israel. Now as long as this condition consist, the people of Israel is not at liberty to obey the laws of Israel.

Now let’s say that the American Army was sent in there to free the Children of Israel so that they can once more be at liberty to obey the laws of Israel.

Again, let’s say that you are one of those American soldiers that has been sent to Israel to break the yoke of Rome. What is your responsibility?

Suppose you see some of the people out in the field working and they are using the old method of farming, is it your duty to go out there and show them a better way to farm?

Suppose you see two men of Israel fighting, is it your duty to stop the fight and bring peace again to them?

Suppose you see a husband and wife fighting, is it your duty to stop the fight and restore peace?

No, none of those things are your responsibility. If you get involved in any of those things you have become entangled in the affairs of this life, and while so engaged, you are not doing your duty.

So, what is our duty or responsibility? This is the big question and the one we must have an answer to if we are going to do our duty and please the American Government which has sent us to Israel.

Our only duty and responsibility is to break the yoke of bondage that the Romans has cast upon Israel so that the people of Israel may be at liberty to obey laws of Israel and thus fulfill the duties that every Child of Israel is under obligation to fulfill. If we can break the yoke which has them bound, then they can obey the laws of Israel.

Satan is always going to be showing you things that you could do that might make things appear to be better, but this he will only do to keep you from doing those things which it is your responsibility to do. If we listen to any of his bidding, we will find that we have left off the work which we were sent there to do and become entangled again with the affairs of this life.

As our Scripture tells us, we are not to become entangled with any of the affairs of this life. In other words, any thing that pertains to this life, we are told to leave it along.

Many times, in trying to get people to accept our Lord, we try to tell them how to live in this life and we try to help them live in peace with their family or friends or even their enemies. This is not our responsibility. Our responsibility is only to break the yoke that Satan has on those people and then, let our God deal with the rest of it.

When we began to try and win people to our Lord, the thing we want to see is for the devil to go out of them and Christ to come in. Then what does Satan began to do? He begins to show us all the things that the husband and wife disagree about. What is he trying to do? He is trying to get us to pray for them to come into agreement. Why? Because, while we are praying for unity and peace, we are not fulfilling our responsibility. You see, once again, we are not to become entangled in the affairs of this life. So, what are we to do? What are we to fight against if not all the fussing and fighting that is going on in this dear family that we love and want to see saved?

Let’s look at the following Scripture:

Ephesians 6: 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

We are to keep to our responsibility and that is to war against Satan and cast him out. He is the reason for the fussing and fighting. If we cast him out this family will live in peace and unity under the Laws of our God.

Remember this; when God created Adam and Eve, He created them with a heart to obey His Laws and this they did till Satan came along and got them in his power. It was then that they broke the Laws of God. God also made us in the same manner to have a heart to obey His Laws and we did this till Satan got us in his control and then began all the fussing and fighting.

Therefore if we can be good soldiers and do our duty and get the people out of the control of Satan and back under the control of our God, once again, there will be peace and unity.

Please let us stick to our responsibility and not become entangled in the affairs of this life in the lives of those that we desire to see set free.
