The Seven Steps to Turning Your Life Around
Deciding to Honour Our Loved Ones
Honour is placing high value on God or another person. It's the decision we make that someone has great worth and is a priceless treasure. Out of that decision and God's power comes our ability to genuinely and consistently love others.
Understanding and Appreciating a Person's Natural Strengths
Understanding your own and your loved one's personal strengths can be a tremendous help in gaining intimacy, increasing self-worth, and overcoming weaknesses.
Developing Meaningful Communication
Meaningful communication is to a marriage (relationship) what water is to a plant. Sharing feelings, needs, schedules, problems, opportunities, and prayer (hope) requests is essential.
Dealing Healthily with Anger
Dealing with anger in a healthy way is a crucial part of walking in the light, freeing myself and others to live healthy lives, and restoring relationships to their full potential.
When We're Angry
Admit we're usually trying to use something or someone for personal gain.
Increase our understanding of what's behind another person's offensive ways. Usually the offender is tired, hungry, or angry himself. The more we see why another is offensive, the less we interpret his behaviour as a personal attack.
Be ready to forgive others as God has forgiven us. Their attacks on us are like one toothpick in their eyes, but we have many toothpicks glued together in our own eyes (our offences toward God and others, for which He has forgiven us).
When We've Offended Others
Remember that gentleness turns away anger.
Increase our understanding of how they feel.
Admit our part the offence.
Seek their forgiveness, and wait for a response.
Tenderly touch and thank them for their forgiveness.
Honour. Understanding and valuing differences. Meaningful communication. Dealing with anger quickly and healthily.
Meaningful Touching
Meaningful touching is an important way of expressing warmth and security to a loved one. It puts action to our words of affection and both physically and emotionally blesses those who are touched.
Regular Emotional Bonding Experiences
Emotional bonding times are experiences we provide for our spouses and children that form the basis of positive memories. Whether we tale a walk in the park or a trip to Australia, and regardless of whether it rains on our picnic or our flights are cancelled, sharing meaningful experiences is a great way to increase positive family feelings.
Financial Faithfulness
Financial faithfulness involves taking an active role in managing the resources God has provided for present needs, as well as prayerfully creating a clear plan for the future.
