William was an air inspector for the railroad in Cleburne, Texas. He
was lying under a train working on the air brakes when it rolled and
cut both of his legs off. He was taken to Scott and White Hospital in
Temple, Texas (Bell County) but did not survive his injuries. His body
was taken to Dillon Funeral Home in Cleburne and he is buried in Lot 4
Blk 59 of the Cowsert family plot in Cleburne Memorial Cemetery.
Leeanna is also buried in Cleburne Memorial Cemetery. The Cemetery is
at the corner of North Washington and East Second Street in Cleburne.

Lex remembers meeting MORRIS WILLIAM COWSERT when Morris was
visiting them in the Washington D.C. area. He also remembers
visiting WILLIAMSON COWSERT ("BILLY") in San Antonio in 1958.
Billy had stored in his garage, refills for the gum ball
machines in his store. Billy let Lex have total access to
these.

Edward was a Confederate veteran and his family owned 10 slaves and
owned quite a bit of land. His father, MAJOR JOHN GARRISON, was the
postmaster at Masonhall, Tenn. which was on the Gibson and Obion Co.,
Tenn. line in West Tenn. Around 1873 or 1874, during reconstruction,
Edward either killed a man or thought he had, according to which
family legend you choose to believe, and fled the area, leaving his
wife and first two children apparently with some of his or her family.
It was during this time frame that he changed his name from EDWARD
DAVIE GARRISON to EDWARD DAVIES, taking his mother's maiden name and
adding an "s", and dropping GARRISON altoghther and that is the family
name today. No doubt that he failed to change this name legally, and
apparently he remained on the "lam" for many years. The family lore or
legend said he stayed away for seven years and a day, until the
statute of limitations ran out, but it appears there is not quite that
length of time between the births of his second and third children.
Nothing is known of him for the next six years or so other than he
went to Texas. He appears in the early 1880's with his wife and not
only the first two children but apparently two others as well. He was
in Sabine Parish, LA. where he was teaching school. He ended up next
in Winnfield, Winn Parish, LA. where he was principal of the local
school and stayed there about three years before moving on North to
the Gansville community, Winn Parish, where he again taught school.
Still later, he went to Bear Creek, Bienville Parish, LA. where he
practiced medicine and then to Mansfield, DeSoto Parish, LA. where he
remained until his death in 1928. He had a pretty fair medical
practice there. RENA was a school teacher as well.
