SHOULD INFANTS BE BAPTISED?

A Brief Overview of Genesis

A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF GENESIS 17

Here we read the account of God making a covenant with Abram and instituting the sign of Circumcision.

Verses 1-2 God appears to Abram and says He will establish His covenant with Abram.

Verses 5-7 God changes his name to Abraham, for he will be a father to many nations

and this covenant will be between God and Abraham and his descendants

for an everlasting covenant. Notice that Abraham believed God and it

was reckoned to him as righteousness before he was circumcised and that

he is the father of all who believe.(Gen.15:6; Rom.4:3,9-25)

Verses 9-14 Abraham was head of his household (1Cor11:3) and every male from eight

days old was to recieve the sign of circumcision, even servants.

Verses 23 Every male was circumcised.

INFANTS NEED A SAVIOUR TOO!!!

In understanding that baptism is also for children, we would have to conclude that they are sinners in need of a saviour. Lets see what the Bible says:

Genesis 6-8 God floods the Earth-there had to be children.

Gen. 6:5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and

that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

Gen.8:21 And the Lord smelled a soothing aroma. Then the Lord said in His heart

"I will never again curse the ground for man's sake, although the

imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; nor will I again

destroy every living thing as I have done."

Genesis 18:16-18,30 God destroys Sodom &Gomorrah-there had to be children.

Gen.18:20 And the Lord said, "because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is

great, and because their sin is very grave,

Numbers 16 The Rebellion of Korah

Num.16:27-33 So they got away from around the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram;

and Dathan and Abiram came out and stood at the door of their tents, with

their wives, their sons, and their little children. And Moses said:

"By this you shall know that the Lord has sent me to do all these works,

for I have not done them of my own will. If these men die natural

like men, or if they are visited by the common fate of all men, then

the Lord has not sent me. But if the Lord creates a new thing, and

the earth opens its mouth and swallows them up with all that

belongs to them, and they go down alive into the pit, then you

will understand that these men have rejected the Lord."

Now it came to pass, as he finished speaking all these words, that

the ground split apart under them, and the earth opened its mouth

and swallowed them up, with their households and all the men

with all their goods. So they and all those with them went down

alive into the pit; the the earth closed over them, and they perished

from among the assembly.

Ps 51:5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin, my Mother

conceived me.

Ps 58:3 The wicked are estranged from the womb; They go astray as

soon as they are born, speaking lies.

Rom 3:10 As it is written: There is none righteous, no not even one.

John 3:3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly I say to you,

unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."
