Welcome to Mimi's Garden
Here we are back at the worst time of the year! WINTER!! I hate winter! I want to dig in the dirt. There's only so much satisfaction that you can get from house plants (even if my house does look like a jungle because of everything I brought inside to keep "safe" for the winter. And the seed catalogs and flower & garden catalogs tend to make me spend A LOT of money! After last year we've cut back the size of the garden - and hopefully we can keep it under control this year! We didn't even start anything in the greenhouse as the cost of heating it this winter was prohibitive.
Our new project for the year is a "tree" garden. We have a couple of acres out back that are just ugly pasture type area so have decided to plant "different" trees and EVENTUALLY have paths and sitting areas here and there to admire each tree. So far we have smoke trees, corkscrew willow and a silver leaf maple. Poor hubby will probably shoot me if I tell him that I need one more hole dug (you'd have to live in Arkansas to know how difficult that is here!) UPDATE - he hasn't killed me yet but it wouldn't surprise me to get divorce papers served any day now. We also started (late in the summer) a pond and surrounding garden. Got a small pond but want to do a whole waterfall thing. Of course, I couldn't wait to plant it till it was all done so have lots of varigated grasses, another weeping pussy willow, and yet another new tree - the "Contorted Filbert". Need to find him a mate and we'll be even more nuts than we are already! I will wait until spring to put in fish though. Just going to go with gold fish - not Koy. We have a heron that fishes the creek beside our house and I'm afraid that he'll find the pond a quick take-out meal!
