LISTS OF YOUNG HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS' ARRIVAL TO PALESTINE/ ISRAEL

The Galil Genealogical Society has taken on the project of gathering and duplicating lists of children from (mostly) Europe who came to Palestine (Israel) by 1949.
Many of these young Holocaust survivors (most often brought to Eretz Yisrael through Aliyat HaNoar), are now adults in search of their lost identity, actively trying to reconstruct their past through family, friends and acquaintances who can add to their understanding of who they are.
These lists consist of over 10.000 pages of information, taken from many sources. We organized this information into three sections:

SHIPS AND PLANES
EUROPE
ERETZ YISRAEL

FILES OF SHIPS AND PLANES

This section is concerned with the transport of children by ship or airplane from Europe to Ertz Yisrael. Some files also include transports outside of Europe.
A majority of children were brought by ships, often as "children of legal immigrants" with legal certificates. In order to receive such certificates, children used names different from their own and some continued to use their new name in an official capacity, forgetting their original name.
About 100 ships carried over these children, sailing back and forth as often as possible and necessary. Children who arrived by airplane are filed seperately.
The ship lists contain summaries of transports in chronological and alphabetical order.

THE EUROPE FILES

As a general rule, documents regarding the children were drawn-up in Europe and were easy to arrange according to geographic area. Note that sometimes while written as being Polish, this could mean that the child was born in Poland or of Polish Jewish parents, even if born elsewhere. The Europe Files contain summaries of the institutions which helped children on their way to Palestine/Israel.

ERETZ YISRAEL

From ship files, we created a seperate file of institutions where children were sent once they arrived to Palestine/Israel.
We are aware of the importance of the information we are gathering and making available to all those interested. Time is running out for those who seek information into their childhood pasts, searching for people who have the keys to unlock closed doors.
Second-generation family members are actively researching their parents' backgrounds.
At present this collection is housed at the Meshi Center for Genealogical Research.
