"Heroes"
I am
the daughter and sister of a firefighter. I have always been so unbelievably
proud of my Dad, and now my brother and have been exposed to the 'firestation'
and firetrucks for years and years. AND learned VERY early that they are
'Firefighters' NOT 'Firemen' (Firefighters put fires out, Firemen shovel
coal on the train engines.LOL!) Dad used to come to our schools with all
his gear to talk to all the children. He still has the pictures that the
kids sent to 'Fireman Bob' as a thankyou! And my children have been to
the stations and on the trucks since wee tots (except the baby who was
born the same month and year Dad retired) And even now, whenever I see
a firefighter, or firetruck I am filled with awe and pride and respect!!
Soooo I have decide to do a little tribute to Dad, Rob and EVERY FIREFIGHTER
everywhere for all you represent and all you do for all of us!!

helmet (LOL!)???
"What Is A Fireman"
He's the guy next door, a man's man with the memory of a little boy. He's never gotten over the excitement of the engines and sirens and danger. He's the guy like you and me with warts and worries and unfilled dreams. Yet he stands taller than most of us. He's a fireman.
He puts it on the line when the bell rings. A fireman at once the most fortunate and the least fortunate of men. He's a man who saves lives, because he's seen too much death. He's a gentle man because he has seen the awesome power of violence out of control. He's responsive to a child's laughter, because his arms held too many small bodies that will never laugh again.
He's a simple man who enjoys the simple pleasures in life, hot coffee held in numb, unbending fingers, a warm bed for bone and muscle compelled beyond feeling. The camaraderie of brave men and the devine peace and selfless service, of a job well done.
He doesn't wear buttons or wave flags or shout obscenities. When he marches it's to honour a fallen comrade. He doesn't preach the brotherhood of man, he lives it!!
