Aliki Point

Washington

This lighthouse, located along the shore of Elliott Bay, not far from Seattle, Washington (in fact, my map shows it within the corporate limits), was spotted as my wife and I cruised the bay on our way to Blake Island State Park for some of the best salmon I've ever eaten!

The Fujichrome color slide was taken in early July, 1984. This light station was established in 1887, was automated in 1984, and got a new lens in 1998. (By the way, the first light was, according to the National Maritime Inventory Initiative, a brass kerosene lantern that was hung on a post on the side of a barn! The wood frame structure is in use by the US Coast Guard and is open to the public.

Notice the snow-capped mountain in the distance (barely visible above the flagpole just left of the lighthouse). My thanks to Andrew N. for the scan.
