Amelia Island

Florida

We were surprised not to be able to get a closer view of this tower, but the area is a residential neighborhood, and the light, established in 1839, is not open to the public.

There is a good view of the top of the tower approaching from the east crossing the bridge, but much of the tower is obscured by vegetation.

Amelia Island is in Northern Florida, near Fernandina Beach.

If visiting the area, we recommend a side-trip north to St. Marys, Georgia--a beautiful coastal community with bountiful charm.

This light was originally located on Great Cumberland Island, Georgia since 1820, and was relocated in 1838. The tower is 64 feet tall and houses a third order fresnel lens that was installed in 1903.
