When Cape Canaveral Lighthouse was restored, the original top became a gazebo at the Air Force Space and Missle Museum on the base!
The tower built in 1984, was constructed of metal plates, so that it could be disassembled, moved back and reassembled if necessary (It has been moved further away from the encroaching Atlantic Ocean). There is an exterior metal staircase outside the lower portion of the tower (visible on the left side in the photo, just above the roofless outbuilding). The original Fresnel lens was removed during restoration, and is on display in the museum at Ponce Inlet.
Some bus tours that leave from the Kennedy Space Center Visitors Complex pass by the lighthouse; otherwise it is inaccessible to the general public. I was fortunate during a June, 2000 visit to the Kennedy Space Center with a group of NASA guests to be able to take a few photos of the lighthouse--certainly one of the oldest structures in the immediate area. We were told visitors from a distance often think they are viewing a rocket when actually what they see is the lighthouse.
