Lighthouse, Northern Cozumel Island

Isla de Cozumel Lighthouses

Mexico

There are four lighthouses on Cozumel Island, off the Yucatan Penninsula of Mexico. We saw three, but were only able to photograph these two. Both of these are active aids to navigation.

This one on the northern tip of the island is relatively inaccessible but is visible from air or sea. We were approximately four miles away at the time this photo was taken, shortly after daybreak.

Predio Ealetita is a new lighthouse, put into service in 2000. It is a buttressed concrete tower, not open to the public, and is also known as El Faro del Predio Ealetita. It is clearly visible from the cruise ships that regularly dock on the western coast resort area of Cozumel.

On a crowded bus tour to the southern tip of the island, we were able to see a third light, but the combination of speed and road conditions prohibited any attempt to photograph it.
