We stopped by Hilton Head on the way to Florida in July, 1998, climbed the lighthouse, and took some pictures. It was a beautiful day, and we ended up spending several hours, delaying our arrival in Florida.
If you look closely in the photo above, you might be able to see my wife and son waving from the top of the lighthouse.
So a couple of years later, it was with some delight we had the chance to return to the island, this time for a week. The photo below is from that trip.
When this modern structure was built, many thought it would be a bust, but the lighthouse certainly was a factor in spurring the commercial and resort development in the area.
