St. Augustine Lighthouse

St. Augustine Lighthouse,
St. Augustine, Florida
photographed August, 1996

Welcome to the St. Augustine Lighthouse photos. After reading the information about this site, and viewing the photos, scroll to the bottom of the page for a large panoramic view from the top of the lighthouse. Unless your screen image is very high resolution, you will need to use the scroll bars on your browser to view the full panorama. This is an experimental approach to convey the feeling of looking out from the walkway at the top of the lighthouse. The image was made by combining two panoramic format 35mm images together. The file is quite large, but should be loaded by the time you reach that part of the page.

This lighthouse is constructed on the site of the first lighthouse in Florida, and has been restored, as has the lightkeeper's house (in the foreground of this image).

The Lightkeeper's house is maintained as a museum.

An outstanding view from the top includes panoramas of historic St. Augustine, the Bridge of Lions, Salt Run, and Matanzas Bay. But it takes a climb of more than 200 steps to reach the top.

The experimental panoramic image below shows the Bridge of Lions off in the distance almost directly above the red ironwork railing. Conch Island is on the right, on the far side of Salt Run. Beyond the island is the Atlantic.
