This site is located at the Mayport Naval Station, on the St. John's River, Florida. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is near the ferryboat dock. The lighthouse was built in 1858, and first lit in 1859. The lighthouse is no longer operational, and the third order fresnel lens installed in 1867 was removed. It now sits partially buried in fill. A more modern tower built in 1954 is about 2 miles southeast of this old tower, and is operated by the US Coast Guard.
