Tinicum Rear Range Lighthouse
Paulsboro, New Jersey
The
Tinicum Rear Range Lighthouse is 85 feet tall with 112 steps, and began operating
December 31, 1880. It has a 1,000 watt lamp, with a fixed red light of 500,000
candlepower, according to information at the site provided by the New Jersey
Lighthouse Society.
We found the site locked when we arrived, but at least were able to get some photos on a clear spring day in late May, 2004, during a week-long visit during which we photographed a dozen lighthouses, many on the New Jersey Coastal Heritage Trail, though this one is not.
The site is in Paulsboro, and is opened the third weekend of each month from April to October.
It is paired with the Tinicum Front Range Light to guide Delaware River navigation into Philadelphia.
