Will of Charles Clanton ( - ~1793), Union Co, SC In The Name of God amen that I, Charles Clanton of the County, of Union Pinckney District State of South Carolina Being Weak in Body, but of sound ---- Memory and Judgement Blesed be God do this fifteenth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred Ninety three and of the Sovereignty and Independence of the united States of America the eighteenth do make and Publish this my last will and Testament First, I give my Soul to god who give It and I do hope that thorough --- the suffering of my Redeemer Jesus Christ of Ever - liveth it we be Raised at the Last Day also my body - to be Buried in a decent Christian Manner at the Discretion of my Executors Hereafter Named, Item I do Will --- and Require that all my Just and Lawful Debts be paid Also I will and Bequeath to my well and Beloved wife her Maintaince during her Natural Life of the Plantation which she now Liveth upon and one feather Bed with furniture to Remain in Peasable and Quiet Possesion of Said house and Plantation as aforisaid During her Natural Life -- and I do Will and Require that my too Sons to wit - Sian Clanton and Stephon Clanton have too Feath -- Beads, Which is known Called theres with there furniture --one to Each, Also my will is that if my too Sons Sian Clanton and Stephon Clanton do withe the Profits and other things to be After Mentioned to Discharge Said Debt -- So Which Said Land Plantation known Luth under that then the Said Plantation Heirs unto the aforsaid Sian Clanton and Stephon for ever upon the terms After mention First that all my Moveable Property be sold and the profits arising go to pay Said Debt of Sd Land then after Sd Debt being Discharge My Will is that Sd Plantation of 437 aores be devid Between my too Sons, Sian Clanton and Stephon Clanton to begin Where a Certain Branch Cided the flat Branch on the north side of Thicketty Creek doth, Run Cross the Line of Said Land thence down Sd Branch - to the mouth of it thence Strait Cross Thicketty Creek to the Line on the South Side of Sd Thicketty Plantation being the Land I know Live upon and my Will and Desire is that my too Sons as above be the Equal part in ajusting to for Sd Land Also my Will In Provided my too sons as above can Discharge the above Debt Without be Obliged to Sell the Moveable Property that then Sd property be Sold and Devided Be my too Sons Sian Clanton, and Stephon Clanton, and I make and Ordain my Son Sian Clanton and James Petty Sol Executors of this my last will Contained to take Care and See the Same Preformed to my true interest & meaning In Witness where of I have Hereunto Set my hand and Seal the day and yer above Written
