The name Jehovah Rohi means, "Jehovah, my Shepherd."  When studying this name, personalize it by thinking of Him as My Shepherd, Who wants me to know His will.

The primary meaning of the word rohi is "to fee."  A second meaning of the word rohi indicates "the relationship between a leader and his people."  The word rohi can also signify "the relationship between a priest or prophet and his people."  Another translation of rohi is "companion" or "friend."  This expresses the idea of intimacy and sharing life and food.  The Bible says we are joint heirs with Jesus (Romans 8:17); we are to share in His life and identify completely with Him.  Exodus 33:11 speaks of a rohi relationship between the Lord and Moses.  "The Lord would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks with his friend."

God wants to be that intimate in His relationship with us.  Jesus is our friend who sticks closer than a brother.  That is our rohi relationship with Him.

When we see the Lord as our Shepherd, He will lead us, feed us, bring judgment, and keep us from folly.  He is our close and intimate companion and friend.

"May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom e glory for ever and ever"  (Hebrews 13:20-21).

"For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and overseer of your souls" (1 Peter 2:25).

"And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away" (1 Peter 5:4).

"I am the good shepherd, I know my sheep and my sheep know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father, and I lay down my life for the sheep.  I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen.  I must bring them also.  They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd" (John 10:14-16).
