JONES Cambridge Jones—Cambridge C. Jones, J5, a former Ironton resident, was fatally injured in an automobile accident near Marion Friday at 11:20 a.m. Mr. Jones, who had resided in Dayton for the past five years, was a retired C.& O. conductor. He was born in Greenup County, May 28, 1876, son of the late Clayton and Rebecca Johnston Jones. His wife, Nancy Lewis Jones, died in Ironton, September3, 1942. Mr. Jones was a member of the Baptist Church and Eagles Aerie no. 197 at Toledo. Survivors include the following children: Earl Jones, Columbus; Mrs. Jeanette Del Monico, Cleveland; Carl Jones, Toledo, Mrs. Sylvia Nance and Harry Jones both of Cleveland, and Okey Jones, Lexington, Ky. Eight grandchildren also survive. The body will arrive at the Tracy Brammer Funeral Home this evening. Friends may call after noon Sunday. Last rites will be conducted at the funeral home Monday at 2 p.m. with burial in Woodland Cemetery.
Charles E. Jones, 54, Nelsonville Route 1 (Myers’ Crossing), died Friday night shortly after being admitted to Mount St. Mary Hospital. He had been in ill health due to a heart ailment. Born at Russel, KY he was the son of the late William and Anna Jones. He was a World War II veteran and a retired employee of the Athens Mental Health Center. Survivors include his wife, Edna; two daughters, Mrs. Betty Williamson and Miss Carol Jones, both of Nelsonville Route 1, two sons, Charles R, with the Army of Fort Monroe, Va.; and William at home; two sisters Miss Evelyn Jones, and Mrs. Elizabeth Breckbill, both of St. Petersburgm Fla; and one step-sister, Mrs. Margaret Calahan of Toledo. Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in the Johonson Funeral Home in Nelsonville. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after noon Sunday. Mrs. Nancy Jones--Death claimed Mrs. Nancy Jones of 804 south Fifth street Thursday evening at her home following a serious illness of several months. She was born Nov. 5, 1873, daughter of the late Rev. Colby c. and Rebecca Collier Lewis and spent her entire life here. She was married 47 years ago at Greenup to L.C. Jones and had been a member of Ice Creek Baptist church since girlhood. She is survived by her husband and the following children: Earl Jones, Columbus; Carl Jones, Toledo; Mrs. James Delmonico, Cleveland; Harry Jones, Cleveland, Okie Jones, Cleveland, and Mrs. Sylvia Nance at home. One son, Donald Jones preceded her in death. She is also survived by two brothers, Lloyd Lewis, Garrett, Ky., James Lewis, Washington, D.C., three sisters, Mrs. Thena Deer, south Fourth street; Mrs. Oma Markel, north Fourth street, and Mrs. Lydia Brooms, Campbell Drive. One brother and three sisters preceded her in death. She is survived by eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. THOMAS JONES PASSES AWAY AFTER LINGERING ILLNESS GREENUP—Death at 10:30 o’clock last night claimed one of Greenup County’s most prominent men when Thomas Jones passed away at his home after a lingering illness of several months. He had recently been a patient at the Cleveland, Ohio clinic where he underwent an operation for cancer. He returned to his home last Thursday night. “Uncle Tom”, as he was known to the many whom knew him intimately, had been active in the public life of the county. He had been elected Greenup County Jailor 13 months ago. He had also been an employee of the C. & O. at Russell for many years. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge, and a member of the Flatwoods M.E. Church where he had served as superintendent for 15 years. His passing came at the age of 65 years. He is survived by the following: Brothers, Russell of Ironton, O., Grover of Hazard, Ky., C.C. Jones of Ironton, and C.C. Craft of Greasy ridge, O.; his wife, Mrs. Helen McKenzie Jones; Children, Mrs. Myrza McCarey; Mrs. Mary Hoffman and Anna Marie Jones, all of Flatwoods, Mrs. Ruth Galloway and Mrs. Jones of Taft, California, Mrs. Lorena Maupin of Ashland, Ky., and Mrs. Evelyn Snapp of Toledo, O.; Step children, Frank and Leslie McKenzie of Flatwoods, Mrs. Dorothy Ewing of Greenup; Mrs. Verna Lawson of Los Angeles, Calif., Ethel McKenzie of Ashland, and Earl McKenzie of Greenup who has been serving as jailor since the illness of his father.
