SPONGIA FAMILY
This family history starts in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana
Louis (Luri) Spongia and his wife Mena Maraspino, had 13 children in all, while living on an island known as Whale Bay at Port Eads, Louisiana (which is located at the mouth of the Mississippi River).
Louis who had oyster bedding grounds, was among the first to cull and bed oysters. He was one of the first fisherman to use tongs. Louis owned several boats and had 14 people working under him,
Mena Maraspino was born in Beliza Bayou, Louisiana in 1862. Louis was born in Austria (off the Adriatic Sea Coast), came to America around 1879.

MY GRANDPARENTS:
Mitchell Spongia married Gertrude Loar on Feb 11, 1929 in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. Mitchell was a hunter, and trapper. He also worked as a crane operator and a conservation officer for the State of Louisiana.
Gertrude was a housewife caring for five children.

Louis Anthony Spongia married Corinne Mathilda Boe on Feb 25, 1956 in St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana. Louis was a heavy equipment operator, a fisherman, and a woodcarver.
Corinne was a housewife who raised 5 children. She loved to do crafts.
