There is nothing harder to face than
losing a beloved pet due to a tragedy. June 10, 2002 not only took our
house, but it took our baby Salty and 8 days later her big brother
Barney.
No one knows for sure what started the fire, but the aftermath was
devastating. All of our possessions were gone, but the worst was not
being able to find out what happened to Salty for 8 days. There was
hope that she just ran away in the confusion, there was fear that
someone picked her up and wouldn't return her, and then there was the
reality that she never made it out of the house with Barney &
Ginger.
Brian was able to get Barney & Ginger out, but poor old Barney (at
12 years-old) was too old to be able to withstand the confusion of the
week following the fire. We were able to bring him home to the pen with
Ginger, but he only lasted one day. We're at least glad that he was
home when he crossed the Rainbow Bridge and not at the kennel.
There is still a hole in our hearts for Barney & Salty, but we know
they are together waiting for their family to be reunited with them
again when we all cross that Rainbow Bridge together.
