Our present "family" consists of Ginger,
Reno, and Indiana. Ginger is 10 and is our only survivor of the fire.
She has been such a good girl. She never complained about being stuck
outside in a pen just after the fire and then being in a cramped
efficiency apartment for months and months. She would just look at us
with her wise eyes as if to say she knew what was going on. She was
none too happy when at Thanksgiving of 2002, we went to Indiana and
visited Lost River Kennels and brought home a shy, timid English
Pointer named Reno. Reno was only supposed to be in the apartment for a
few weeks and it turned out to be 2 months! We used to plead with him
not to bark and bargained with him that if he wouldn't bark, we'd let
him bark however much he wanted when we got in the new house! He still
reminds us of that promise!
Reno was a joy and helped a lot with us moving past the Pointer we lost
in the fire. He's very birdy and is a handsome lad. He's on the small
side since he was the runt of his litter, but he makes up with it with
his big heart. All of his energy was not appreciated by Ginger, so we
decided we had to get him a playmate and friend. In July of 2003,
Indiana came to live with us. We get lots of questions about she and
Reno being in the same litter, but they are 1 year apart in age.
Indiana is a spitfire and takes everything Reno dishes out. Reno has
taken her under his wing and is presently teaching her all he knows
about hunting and where to find the best places to lay on the couch and
bed. We are blessed to have such a wonderful family!
