family to De Witt, Nebraska in 1867. Her granddaughter, Mary Reynolds
Bondy, was named after her.
According to the U.S. Census report of 1900 (Beatrice, Gage, Nebraska),
Jennie had given birth to seven children. Three were living (Homer,
Edith and Inez). Lulu died before 1900. Another baby lived from
December 30, 1880 - January 8, 1881. It is unknown what happened to the
other two children. Perhaps they were stillborn or died shortly after
birth. It is unknown where Lulu and these other two babies are buried or
how they died.
According to the record at the funeral home in Beatrice
(Griffiths-Hovendick Funeral Home), Jennie died of a "Cerebral
Hemmorrhage during attack (primary), acute broncho pneumonia (
secondary)." She must have had a paralyzing stroke and then developed
pneumonia. Her religion was listed as "Christian" in the funeral home
record. She died in the Mennonite Hospital.
Her services were held in the Episcopal Church on May 6, 1926 in
Beatrice. The church is located at Fifth and Lincoln streets. The
following is from the church bulletin that was found in Amy Louise
Leacock's family Bible. Amy was Jennie's sister. The bulletin reads, "On
May 3, Mrs. Jennie (Hobbs) Bradt passed within the veil that separates
the seen from the unseen. Mrs. Bradt was a devout, loyal and consistent
communicant of the church. In her home and in the community, her life
was that of one in whom was no guile. 'Her children rise up and call her
blessed.' The burial was from the church on the sixth, and she was laid
to rest beside the remains of her husband, who preceded her a few years
ago. Jennie Hobbs was born April 16, 1851, at Ashtabula, Ohio, and in
1867, came to De Witt, Nebraska. On June 4, 1872, she was united in
marriage to Byron Bradt, and from this time until her death made her home
in Beatrice. Three children are left to mourn the loss of a devoted
mother; Homer Bradt, of Spokane, Wash.; Mrs. Delbert Reynolds and Mrs.
Harry S. Ahlquist, of Beatrice. May she rest in peace and may light
perpetual shine upon her."
The obituary that appeared in the Beatrice Daily Sun newspaper on May 4,
on page 5, under obituaries read, "Mrs. Jennie Bradt called by death:
Mrs. Jennie Bradt, widow of the late Byron Bradt, passed away at 6
o'clock yesterday morning at a hospital here of pneumonia, suffering a
stroke of paralysis shortly before her death. She was seventy-five years
of age. Mrs. Bradt was one of the early settlers of this section of the
state, locating in Saline county with her parents when she was sixteen
years of age. She came to Beatrice in the early seventies, residing here
continually since that time. Mrs. Bradt, because of her long residence
here, was known to all of the old settlers of Beatrice and vicinity, and
they will learn of her passing with sincere regret. Her husband passed
away four years ago. Surviving are three children, Homer of Spokane,
Washington and Mrs. Bert Reynolds and Mrs. Harry Ahlquist of this city.
She was a sister of Frank Hobbs of this city, and Mrs. Amy Leacock of De
Witt. The body is at the Beagmeyer-Lenhart mortuary pending funeral
arrangements."
She is buried in the Bradt family section of the Beatrice Cemetery in Lot
2, Block 25. Her gravestone reads, "Mother, Jennie Bradt, 1851-1926."
She is buried with her husband , her baby (the inscription on the
gravestone reads, " Our Baby". Dates given were December 30, 1880 -
January 8, 1881. The gravestone contained other words, but is too old to
read.), Byron's parents (William and Rosanna ), and Byron's brother,
James Harvey Bradt. Byron BRADT and Mary Jane (Jennie) HOBBS had the following children:

Lulu May BRADT was born on 28 Sep 1876 in Beatrice, Gage, Nebraska, USA.
She died on 19 Oct 1879 in Beatrice, Gage, Nebraska, USA. It is unknown exactly
when Lulu was born, or when and how she died.
These dates are not confirmed. Some family members list her birth date as
October 19, 1879. Others list that date as her death date.
The 1900 Census indicated Jennie Bradt had given birth to seven
children. Three were listed as living. They were Homer, Edith and Inez.
Lulu and their week-old baby had died. What happened to the other two
babies are unknown. Perhaps they were stillborn, or died shortly after
birth.
It is unknown where Lulu is buried. She is not buried with her parents
and her sibling ( who died at one week old) in the Beatrice Cemetery,
Lot 2, Block 25. It is also unknown where the other two babies are
buried or when they were born or died.
Lulu looks to be about three years old in the latest known picture of
her.

She died on 8 Jan 1881 in Beatrice, Gage, Nebraska, USA. The records from
the Beatrice Cemetery listed a Bradt child born
December 30, 1880, and died January 8, 1881. This baby is buried next
to its parents, Byron and Jennie Bradt, it's paternal grandparents,
William and Rosanna Bradt and an uncle , James Harvey Bradt . They are
all buried in the Bradt section of the Beatrice Cemetery in Lot 2, Block
25. The gravestone is too old to read for this child , except for the
words, "Our Baby" and the two dates. The name and cause of death of
this baby is unknown. It is also unknown if this baby were a boy or a
girl.
