In 1905, George was a sophomore at A&M. He was a private in Company A. He was listed as being from Kyle and his study cource was Engineering. Here he was called "Arthur" as well in his family.
1906 he is now a junior and listed as being in electrical engenieering.He is on the A&M C Baseball team. He is listed as pitcher. George was Chairman of the Finance Committee for the Final Ball, First Sergeant of Company D of The Big Eight, and Secretary of the Sul Ross Literary Society.
1907 found him to be a graduating senior. In THE LONG HORN on p. 61 his bio is thus: George Arthur Smith.. Electrical Engineering.. Kyle, Texas
" Captain "B" Company: Captain A and M College Baseball Team, '07; Substitute '06 Football Team; Member Glee Club; The Stags. Although he and Bob Smith have the same name, Arthur declares they are not related. Something of a prodigy, the unsual features of good student and good athlete being combined in him. Has often in the last few years threatened to resign his rank, but unfortunately nothing ever came of it. " He was pitcher of his baseball team, was member of the theatre group, The Stags, played Left-end on "C" Company's Football Team, and was a First Tenor in The Glee Club that year.

GW as he was known to most people was a gentle soul. He was good hearted , loved animals, liked by all, was fair and generous, and seldom had anything unpleasant to say about anyone.
He was a quiet person that stayed to himself a lot in the years before his transplant. Once Royce was amazed to find, "He talks". He enjoyed kidding his nieces and nephews.
He worked in the cable industry since it came into being in San Antonio. In many ways he was a workaholic and liked his job and company.
He worked very hard to qualify for his transplant and was both nervous and excited about it. After the transplant , he was delighted to be able do some things that he had been unable to do . He enjoyed watching the Spurs games at home and with his friend,Gary. They had a good time just hanging out since he was not able to get into crowds yet.
