their sons Hugh, Joseph, John, William, and David, (also James' grandson James
Pollock Park, son of Andrew) sailed from Scotland on 4 July, 1820, aboard the
sailing vessel "Prompt". They landed at the Port of Cornwall, on the
north side of the St. Lawrence River. (just west of Montreal)
The new settlers were given a bonus of ten pounds sterling each by the
Canadian government, for settling Perth. (75 miles north of Kingston, Ontario.)
In 1844 a Mormon missionary (John Borrowman) converted John, William, and
David to the LDS church. He also converted James' grandson, James Pollock Park.
The boys left to join the saints at Nauvoo, on 10 Mar. 1846. They, along with
others in their company, cut a road through six miles of brush and timber.
This was near the town of Alvinston, Ontario (east of Port Huron, Michigan) the
road is now known as the Nauvoo road by the Canadian government.
They arrived at Nauvoo on 20 Apr. 1846, but stayed only about a week. From
Nauvoo, they traveled to Florence, NE (winter quarters) arriving in Oct 1846.
On June 10, 1847, they departed Nebraska with the John Taylor company, bound
for the distant Salt Lake Valley. They arrived in Salt Lake City 2 Oct, 1847.
