INDEXES AND TERTIARY SOURCES

Note from Astrid: I ordered birth certificates from the UK. The
General Register Office (GRO) identifications (quarter years,
registration districts, volume and page numbers) were found in
the British Civil Registration indexes available on microfilm or
microfiche for births, marriage, or death registrations in England
or Wales as early as 1837. These micro-publications are available
at many large genealogical collections in libraries or genealogical
associations and in most Family History Centers (usually located
in churches of the Mormons – Church of Jesus Christ and Latter-Day Saints).

FROM INDEX:
Birth certificate for John Stacey, born 1838-1839,
[Merton], Devon, England.
GRO registration: 2nd (June) Quarter 1839 – Vol. X (10), page 206,
Torrington Registration District;
General Register Office (GRO), England.
John Stacey was the son of Philip Stacey of the County of Devon and,
on April 22, 1865, became the husband of Emma Jane Newberry of Marystow,
Devon, England. They had twelve children all together – three (Charles,
John, Lydia) born in Torquay, Devon, before the family’s immigration to
Canada on May 11, 1871. The remaining nine children were born in Courtice,
Darlington Township, County of Durham, Ontario, Canada. John Stacey was
51 years old when he died in Canada in 1890.
MEMOS: Send relevant and updated family group sheets with photocopies.
Aim to have each fact cited on family group sheets, family trees, and on so.

These models were based on my own personal research started in
1999-2000 and my subsequent opinions about how Canadian and English
genealogical sources might be included in citations, footnotes, and
bibliographies. This project has turned into an ongoing labour of love,
and I welcome your comments, opinions, or questions.
