His wife Jane, age 59, born ca. 1821-22 in Somerstown, Middlesex. Four Children living at home: Jane Sarah NEWSTEAD (waistcoat maker), age 33, born 1847 in Shoreditch, Middlesex; Joseph NEWSTEAD (vellum binder), age 25, born 1855 in Shoreditch, Middlesex; John NEWSTEAD (compositor apprentice), age 17, born 1863 in Hoxton[sic?] (should be Shoreditch?), Middlesex; James NEWSTEAD (errand boy), age 15, born 1865 in Haggerstone[sic?] (should be Shoreditch?), Middlesex.

2. Printer and compositor John NEWSTEAD, born 1863 in East London (Shoreditch), England, married Annie Elizabeth WILLIAMS in 1886 at Whitechapel, Middlesex, the birthplace of the bride. Annie was born in 1864 in Whitechapel, Middlesex. They had five children: John William NEWSTEAD, born 1887 (see below); Annie Elizabeth NEWSTEAD, born 1889 in Bethnal Green, Middlesex; Edith Eleanor NEWSTEAD, born 1891-92, probably in the City of London; George NEWSTEAD, born 1894 in Whitechapel, Middlesex; and Lilian Sarah NEWSTEAD, born 1898 in Whitechapel, Middlesex, England.

3. John William NEWSTEAD born April 8, 1887 in Abingdon, Berkshire, England (1901 census gives his birth place as "Bethnal Green" in London/Middlesex). By 1919, John is probably married to Rose Bertha WHEATLEY, born November 6, 1896, in Maidstone, Kent, England, the daughter of Arthur James Wheatley and Kathleen Heard(s). According to family lore, around the time of WWI, Jack was an hostler (horse handler) and Rose a cook for the Baroness Emmuska Orczy (author of The Scarlet Pimpernel) at her estate of "Snowfields." Sometime after they married, and before 1825, John and Rose moved to Canada and settled in Gravenhurst, Ontario.
