BAKER, LUTHER ELIJAH, financier, was born Jan. 1,
1865, in Melrose, Va. He accepted the position of
bookkeeper, and afterward assistant secretary and
secretary of the Iowa Mutual Benefit association, one of
the oldest institutions of its kind in the west. He is official
correspondent of the American Protective Tariff league and
director of the Toledo Savings bank.
