Terry's 3M's

Meditations, Mutterings, Madness

October 19, 1997

There's been a change in my reading plans. I can't go to the library next Sunday, so, I'll have to take the books back today.

I've finished the Lawrence Block mystery. It was hard to get back into The Burglar mystery because Bernie is a guy. Except when the movie was made. Whoopie Goldberg played Bernie in the movie and it took a while to get her image out of my head.

Faye had my library card in her purse the last time I checked out the books, so I checked them out on my niece's card. I'll check them all back in tomorrow and just re-take out the two mysteries I haven't finished, the Yarbro book and the Auel book. The Stout book and the Amy Tan book I'll turn in and wait for another time.

I plan on getting a few more MC Beaton books out. The ones I am taking out again are books that I have already started.

I finished reading Mr. Popper's Penquins to the kids tonight. They were howling with laughter. For a 49 year old book, it certainly held up well. A classic.
Faye and Delton will be going to Comdex again next month. My sister really enjoys going to all the booths. Delton enjoys seeing what's new.

Me? I've been to conventions before in this town. Well, one thing's for sure--they will get their exercise on the days that they go. The Convention Center is huge. But, the convention is not just held in one building. There will also be exhibits at the Sands convention center--two floors worth. There will be smaller exhibits at a couple of the other hotels as well.

A word to convention goers in Vegas. If you are planning to drive to either of these places--get there early or you will end up parking a mile a way. There are shuttle buses running between the convention sites, so, you'd be wise to walk or take a bus to one of the shuttle locations and go between on the free shuttles.

Oh, and as far as I know, the cheapest rooms on the Strip are at Circus Circus.

Try to eat lunch elsewhere! A baked potato with melted cheese can cost $4. A can of soda will probably be $1.50-$2. Coffee (in a little styrofoam cup) runs $1.25. Gourmet prices are charged for diner meals.

Don't forget to wear your athletic shoes!
