Terry's 3M's
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16 There's still an hour to go before it's technically Easter. But, I expect that tomorrow will be a rather busy day and I will have little chance to get onto the computer. The resurrection is the cornerstone of Christianity. Without it, all the rest falls apart. Why would an intelligent person believe in Christianity? Isn't Christianity a blind faith? Quite the contrary. Actually, it is the most logical faith of the thinking person. How can this be? Consider the evidence. The person of Jesus Christ is mentioned in other historical writings of the time. What is written in the secular reports corresponds with the Biblical writings. If the resurrection was a hoax...why couldn't the Roman government officials, the Pharisees, or the Sadducees prove it? If there were any possible way to show that the whole thing was a lie, the news would have been spread quickly throughout the area. But, it could not be disproved. Would you die for a hoax? Most of the apostles suffered torturous deaths. If it were a hoax why wouldn't they renounce it? They died because of their belief. There were soldiers guarding the tomb because the government thought it was possible that the apostles would steal the body and hide it...then announce that Jesus had risen. If the soldiers were to fall asleep while on duty, they would have sentenced to death. I have heard that there are some people who believe that Jesus wasn't really dead. That's not the smartest remark that I've ever heard. First, Jesus was flogged 40 times. Few if any recover from a beating that severe. In fact, in most cases a flogging that severe would result in death. Then, even after the guards on Calvery were quite sure that He was dead on the cross, they stuck a spear in his side to ensure His death. These guards were trained to know their business. I'm sure they knew the difference between dead and unconscious. But, for arguements sake, let's say that Jesus managed to remain alive through all of that. What? He rolled back the rock and overpowered the guards? Yeah, right. Even Schwartzenneggar wouldn't have been capable of that...let alone someone who had been beaten, crucified, and had a spear run through Him. And let's not forget that big rock that had been rolled in front of the tomb. One would have to stoop to get through the entryway, but, it was a doorway. I used to have a close approximation of the size of that entrance, but, I don't know where it is at the moment. I would say that at minimum it was a meter high. And it was probably about as wide of one of our doorways. Do you know how large and heavy a rock would have to be to cover that entrance? And do you honestly think that the Romans left the levers or whatever other equipment they used to move that stone lying around for others to use? My conclusion, based on the precautions used after Jesus died, the inability of the government to prove the resurrection a hoax, and the testimony of the apostles-- not only in scripture--but, in their deaths, is that Jesus Christ arose from the dead.
