DERIVATIVE SOURCES
FAMILY BIBLE (Family Data)
1) Family bible record of the marriage of Mr. William G. Stacey and
Miss Sarah Grace Cook, married August 8, 1894, at Bowmanville,
County of Durham, Ontario, Canada. Witnessed by J.D. Butchart,
T. Percy, R.A. Burriss, Bowmanville, Ont. (uniform handwriting,
not signatures).
Location of original bible is unknown. In 2001, cousin JS mailed a
photocopy of the bible record to Astrid Terras. The design and
subjects of the page suggest that this record may have come from
the same bible as did the other bible record listing the births of
the nine children of this couple. Astrid’s note: Haven’t yet been able
to find the official marriage registration for this couple, but have
seen a local newspaper marriage notice with details of their marriage
ceremony that also confirms the date. Assume that the official registration
may have been lost or misplaced by the officials or minister involved.
2) Family bible record of the children of William George Stacey and
Sarah Grace Cook, born between 1896 and 1918 [in the Counties of Durham
and Ontario, and the District of Parry Sound, Ontario, Canada].
Location of original bible is unknown. In 2001, cousin JS mailed a
photocopy of the bible record to Astrid Terras. The handwriting and
the same pen used throughout the record suggest that the entries were
made at one and the same, perhaps by one of the adult children,
because only nine of the ten known children have been listed in the
record. Missing from the record is Clara May Stacey who lived for
only two months and died on July 9, 1902. Otherwise, the birth dates
in the record have agreed with those released by the Archives of Ontario
thus far (in 2002, birth records to 1905 were released to the public).
BOOK – HISTORY, LOCAL
Larry J. Bary, ed., Memories of Burk’s Falls & Districts 1835-1978
(no publishing data). Contents of the book include a section titled
“The Hilliar Family” (pp. 84-85) written by Josephine M. Hilliar Dempster.
The section refers to Josephine’s grandfather William Underhill Hilliar,
his wife Mary Ann Elizabeth Aldridge, their son Joseph Frederick Hilliar,
daughter Ellen Rose Hilliar, and mention of another six siblings.
Also mentioned are Joseph’s wife Mary Nettie Knight, their son Horace
Knight Hilliar, as well as their daughters Berenice, Josephine (who
authored the two-page section), Kathryn, and some of their various
offspring. (In February 2003, to cousin Debbie Stacey, I mailed the
photocopies of pages 84 and 85 and the citation of the book, all
received from “cmp” in 1999. Also, see the obituary for Josephine M.
Dempster from 2000.)

INDEXES AND TERTIARY SOURCES
MEMOS: Send relevant and updated family group sheets with photocopies.
Aim to have each fact cited on family group sheets, family trees, and on so.
These models were based on my own personal research started in
1999-2000 and my subsequent opinions about how Canadian and English
genealogical sources might be included in citations, footnotes, and
bibliographies. This project has turned into an ongoing labour of love,
and I welcome your comments, opinions, or questions.
