Charles HENRY

Daniel HINE

arrived in Canada from Devonshire, England in 1816 with wife
- settled on L16 C3 in 1818 (on a Clergy Reserve lot)
- Mr. Cronyn bought lot from HINE in 1833
- appointed Pound keeper in January 1819
- was Captain of 4th div Middlesex Militia in 1823


Joseph JAYNE
- born June 13, 1764 in Long Island, NY
- came to Upper Canada in 1798; to London township in 1818 (L32, C7)
- died at age 101 yr


Duncan MacKENZIE
- bombardier in 5th Bat. Royal Regiment of Artillery
- came to province in 1817 from Inverness to Chatham, New Brunswick
- moved to LongPoint settlement then settled on L23 C4 London township on Oct.21, 1818
- married Margaret BARCLAY also from Inverness
- first child born en route to London township
- often thought of as first settler of township but unlikely due to his late in the year arrival
- appointed Clerk in Jan. 1819
- appointed Magistrate in 1813
- veteran of Battle of Waterloo
- captain of 4th div Middlesex Militia in 1823
- commanded battery at Chippewa in 1837
- raised London Independent volunteer Artillery in 1841
- was road commissioner in 1831
- his son, John, became county judge in Lambton County
- another son, D.G.MacKENZIE farmed the homestead at Hyde Park and was clerk of Middlesex County
