| Course: Physical Science | Grade Level(s): 8th |
| Content: Unit 1 // Investigation & Experimentation | Week: 5 |
 California Academic
        Content Standards emphasized: 9.
Scientific progress is made by asking meaningful
questions and conducting careful investigations. As a
basis for understanding this concept, and to address the
content the other three strands, students should develop
their own questions and perform investigations. Students
        will:

| Key Ideas: using tools for measuring length, mass, using the metric system, using the internet for fact finding, problem solving, data analysis, using a spreadsheet to organize and graph data, making and testing a hypothesis |
CLASS MEETING AGENDA/ ACTIVITY |
    |
MEETING 1 |
        [1] Q & A about PS
POW. [2] Review student finding on Metric
        Measurement Cyber-Scavenger Hunt. [3]
        Introduce concept of "measurement unit
conversion" between and within systems of
measurement" using The Metric Sport lesson plan @

MEETING 2 |
[1] Collect PS POW ( Bobo and the M&M Vendors ) [2] Introduce "Physical Science SkillWork" , its purpose, how it is to be done, when it will be assigned and returned. [3] Wrap-up "The Metric Sport" lesson. [4] Start "How do you measure up?" lesson (metric measurement and data collection) if time permits. [5] Start entering data collected from the "How do you measure up?" lesson into a spreadsheet data base for future analysis and graph making. |
HOME SESSION AGENDA/ ACTIVITY |
    |
SESSION 1 |
Make sure that the Metric Measurement Cyber-Scavenger Hunt has been completed and ready to discuss |
SESSION 2 |
Work on finishing some of the conversions from The Metric Sport lesson that were not. finished in class. Visit Metric System and Unit Conversion @ < http://edie.cprost.sfu.ca/~rhlogan/metric.html#end > and practice performing basic unit conversions. |
SESSION 3 |
Work on the first "Physical Science SkillWork™", CBS-1, be ready to ask question during the second class meeting of Week 6 |
