"Yes, the president should resign. He has lied to the American people,
time and time again, and betrayed their trust. Since he has admitted
guilt, there is no reason to put the American people through
an impeachment. He will serve absolutely no purpose in finishing
out his term, the only possible solution is for the president to
save some dignity and resign."

From 12th Congressional District Hopeful William Jefferson
Clinton during the Nixon investigations

"But now that the president has admitted wrongdoing, he should
 resign."
                                          Bill Clinton - August 6, 1974

"I think it's plain that the president should resign and spare the
country the agony of this impeachment and removal proceeding...I
think the country could be spared a lot of agony, and the government
could worry about inflation and a lot of other problems..."
                                          Bill Clinton - August 7, 1974

The last two quotes were reported in 1974 by the Arkansas-Democrat
newspaper. During the summer of 1974 a young University of Arkansas law
professor named Bill Clinton was running for Congress against 10-term
John Paul Hammerschmidt, a fervent Nixon supporter. Clinton lost this
race.
