The first wife and Mum had a wonderful relationship with her husband, Adam. In fact, God, Adam and Eve had a special relationship with one another which involved being open and honest. There was only one restriction that God placed upon Adam and Eve, 'Don't eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil'.

Now when Satan tempted Eve, he used the line: 'Don't believe what God says, he's keeping something good from you'. Satan lies! God knows best. God knew that if Adam or Eve ate fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil they would lose their innocence, things would change for the worse. And that's what happened. When Satan tempted Eve she had to make a choice and she chose the wrong thing.

We too must make choices in our life. To obey God or not to obey him. Let's not be like Adam or Eve, let's decide to obey God because he loves us and wants the best for us.

What's good about Eve?

  • She was the first wife and mother.
  • She had a wonderful relationship with God before she sinned.

What's not so good about Eve?

  • She disobeyed God by eating the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, the only one God said not to touch.
  • She gave some fruit to Adam, leading him into sin also.
  • When confronted by God she blamed someone else, the serpent, for her sin but although the serpent tempted her, she chose to sin.

What can we learn?

  • God knows better than we do. He loves us, wants the best for us and wants to protect us.
  • When we sin it's our fault. We might get tempted by others but we still choose to do good things or bad things.
  • Satan wants to take us away from God. He doesn't want the best for us and he is a liar.
  • Sin entered into the human race through Adam and Eve.
