Hello and thanks for stopping by. Everywhere I go these days, especially here in cyberspace, I often run across banner ads and search pages with offers to read the horoscopes. In newspapers, television guides, magazine, they're everywhere! I've spoken to Christans who say they read their horoscope and feel this is an acceptable practice for a Christian. Lets take a look at some definitions first, and then examine the scriptures, to hear what God's will is about horoscopes.
The dictionary defines 'horoscope' as:
Astrol.a. aspect of the stars at a paticular time, as at the moment of a person's birth;b A diagram or scheme of the twelve houses of heaven, showing the relative positions of planets and signs of the zodiac, by which astrologers profess to FORTELL THE EVENTS OF A PERSON'S LIFE, or to answer horary questions.(Websters Dictionary 1951 ed. pg. 399.)(emphasis mine)
So here we see that horoscope is basically the consulting of the host of heaven (stars and planets) to predict someones future or to answer questions pertaining to a specific time or hour (horary).
Let's look at how Webster defines the word 'astrology':
1. ObsPractical Astronomy. 2. The PSEUDO SCIENCE which treats of the influences of the stars upon human affairs, and of fortelling terrestrial events by their positions and aspects.(1951 Ed, pg.55.)(emphasis mine)
See how it says 'pseudo science'? Pseudo means FALSE. Astrology is a false science! Its fake, not real! The word sounds real scientific, complete with '-ology' on the end. This is satans blatant trickery people. He has a knack for making things sound 'scientific' when really they are deceitful doctrines of demons.
Let's look at another definition, this time of the word 'divination'. You might be saying, what has that to do with horoscopes?
1. The act or practice of FORSEEING OR FORTELLING FUTURE EVENTS, or discovering HIDDEN KNOWLEDGE.(Websters Dictionary, 1951 Ed. pg. 243)(emphasis mine)
Do you see? The practice of consulting the stars, which includes looking up your 'birth sign' and reading your horoscope, is DIVINATION. Also notice it mentions hidden knowledge. Easily defined, hidden knowledge is the same as the OCCULT. If you consult the dictionary on the word 'occult' you will find the words 'hidden, 'astrology, and 'divination' contained within the definition!
Finally, and most important, let us now examine God's precious word, and see what our Father has to say about these things.
In Deuteronomy, chapter 18, we read the following:
There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth DIVINATION, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee. Thou shalt be perfect with the LORD thy God. (Deut 18:10-13)(emphasis mine)Clear as crystal, folks. God says DON'T DO THIS. Look at all of them carefully. Some people might think, "I would never mess with that occult stuff." You might be doing it and not even know it!
Look carefully at 1 Timothy 6:20:
O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:
Paul tells timothy to stay away from 'science' that is false, and not really 'science' at all, but just called that. There is little room for doubt here, since we already know astrology is a FALSE SCIENCE!
So, dear readers, if you are seeking after hidden knowledge, like maybe what will happen to you today, or tomorrow, or next year, remember what Jesus says, in Luke 12:2:
Lu 12:2 For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.
Recall also the scripture at the top of this page (Isa 34:16). Everything we need to know about how to live and work and grow is in the word of God. It is indeed a great gift to us. Learn from our merciful Creator, the Lord Jesus Christ, what you need to know! He has hidden NOTHING! God Bless you!
