Samuel C. Woody From: Martha A. Smith srillini@soltec.net Jean: Found your gen page with the Daily Tribune. I have been looking for so very long into the life of Samuel C. Woody. He was the father of Leon Decatur (Bud) Woody who

was my gggrandfather. I have found him for the last time on the 1880 Bartow County Census and nothing since then. My Bud Woody who was the father of my grandmother Addie Lulu Edwards Woody lived in Fairmount and all his children were born on his farm area. My grandmother died in Cartersville, GA. I have the names of all of Samuel C. and Hannah Woody from the census starting in Murray County and down to Cass, back to Murray and then back to Bartow in the Pine Log area. My cousins who live in Dalton, Calhoun, Cartersville and the entire area are filled with this family. My 2nd cousin is Arthur Lee Woody, former Deputy Sheriff. No body knew Samuel and knew nothing about him. Samuel had a son named Samuel that died in Fairmount. Samuel said he was born in North Carolina. I am on the Woody Mail List and most came from the Dahlonega area and each year they have a reunion but no person has come up with the lineage of Samuel and Hannah. Woody Gap is where most of the Woody's are located. I have searched marriage records in Whitfield, Gordon, Cherokee, Murray and Fannin and cannot find a marriage record for Samuel. Can you help me? Martha Mealer Smith srillini@soltec.net

ANSWER: Martha, Please send me some dates. I checked the Marriage records and I do not find them in what I have. We have the microfilm of the marriages for Cass/Bartow County and if you send dates we can check it out for you, I checked the 1840-50 and 1870 Cass/Bartow County census and came up zip

Cemetary From: Barb1205@aol.com My grandfather Reuben Kelly died in Bartow County sometime in the 1880's or 1890's. I do not know whether he would have a marker on his grave or not. Do you know if there or any records that may help me.Thank you for any help you can give me.Barbara Montgomery

ANSWER: Barbara the cemetery record for your Reuben Kelly has not been located. I checked the books we have and it is possible he is in one of them without a marker, If you know where he lived and what Church he attended. You might try the Church records. Good Luck. Also the Census records may tell you what area he lived in.

Today we pay respect to our veterans. There will be a grave marking for a soldier of the War of 1812 today at 2:30 pm Pvt. John Vaughan was living in North Carolina when he signed up. He received land for his service in South Carolina and later moved to Franklin Co. and then to Cass County, where he died. We pay honor to his memory as his descendants gather to mark his grave in Pine Log at the Vaughan Cemetery. Let us remember all Men and Women who have served our Country, so we might have the freedom we have.

Re: Death Certificate From: dcrain1845@aol.com Harriet S. Caroline Nowlin Bagwell. Died 29 May 1920 in Adairsville, Bartow County, Georgia. Buried in Smith Cemetery, outside of Rome. The only Smith Cemetery I have found was in Shannon, which I believe is a part of Floyd County. A mystery. The other members of her family were buried in Rome.Jim ANSWER: Jim I checked the Shannon Cemetery listing I have the Dry Creek Baptist and Barnsley Methodist Cemeteries. These are in Bartow County, I do not find a Bagwell I will check with a friend that has Bagwell ancestors and see if the name fits any of hers. Bartow County Genealogical Society From: TMarieLong@aol.com Hi Jean, Just returned home from a quick trip to Georgia. I am trying to research my great grandparents Thomas J. and Nancy Jane (Collins) Vaughan/Vaughn who lived in Bartow County. Also my gggrandparents Benjamin F. and Rachel (Pennell) Collins, were in Sonora, Gordon Co. in 1880. Would this now be Sonoraville? Noticed it is close to the Bartow County line. George S. Collins son of Benjamin F. and Rachel Collins married Tresea Floyd. Do know the Floyd family was from around Adairsville. There is a Collins Mtn just NE of Adairsville, do you have any idea as to how it got its name?Marie Long tmarielong@aol.com ANSWER: B.F.COLLINS, was born in 1814 on May 26, as told by his grandson Mr. Wil Hughes stated that Collins got a confesion to the murder from a slave and pointed out Mrs. Morris grave to her youngest grandchild, John W West, of Colege Park, GA who put up the stone at Folsom Glade Church with the inscription Mary Ann Camp Morris. Norma and Jerry Bohannon compiled the names of the people on the stone and also took a picture of it. With some 2 to 3 dozen names on it.
