Notes
for CONRAD
MCQUATE:
Correspondence
from Douglas McQuate, descendant of Conrad:
Conrad farmed all of his life around the Jeromesville, Ohio area in
Ashland County. In his later years,
he and his wife lived with their son, George, at Huntington, Lorain County [OH].
A newspaper clipping stated that seven or eight years before his death,
Conrad cut a walnut tree and had it sawed into boards at the George Morr saw
mill. After drying, he and his son,
William, made [Conrad] a casket. They
lined it with appropriate cloth and brought it to W. C. Frazee's undertaking
establishment.
The article names the children and states:
all are living in the central part of Ashland County except Sarah Schroll,
his daughter; she is living in Wabash County, Ind.

SMITH:
Obituary
in Wellington Enterprise 1 Jun 1933:
Thomas Smith (affectionately called "Tom" by his many friends)
died Monday evening at 10:30 at his South Main-st. home after a short illness.
The genial Wellington business man had been ill recently but had
recovered and was about his duties daily until he was stricken with paralysis at
12:30 a. m. last Friday. He spent
Thursday evening at the softball game and later played cards with friends.
After retiring, he went to the bathroom about midnight and when he did
not return Mrs. Smith investigated and found him a victim of a stroke.
He was unconscious practically all of the time until his death.
He was fifty-seven years of age, having been born June 20, 1875.
Had he lived until June 9, he would have celebrated his fortieth wedding
anniversary with his wife, Mrs. Jennie Smith.
A farmer in earlier year, for the past eight years Mr. Smith was manager
of the Wellington Oil Co. here.
He was a member of the Huntington M. E. church, Sons of Veterans,
Wellington Business Association, Wellington Grange, and the F. O. E.
He is survived by his wife and four sons, Herman, Harley, Arlo, and
Myron; eleven grandchildren and six sisters, Mrs. Ernest Stevenson, of St.
Petersburg, Fla.; Mrs. Homer Holland, of here; Mrs. Maude Hull, Mrs. Ralph
Thornton, and Mrs. Osea Higgie, of Elyria; Mrs. R. V. Cohagen, of Penfield.
Rev. Paul Carter will officiate at the last rites, to be held in the M.
E. church this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial,
in charge of the Wadsworths, will be made in Greenwood cemetery.
