CeBit ’98
Regardless of the size, the companies that participate in CeBit are all working to secure their future.
Held in Hannover, Germany, between March 19-25, 1998, companies of various size displayed their production information technology, telecom and office automation. Of these three, the IT Industry has a fairly large representation. The number of multimedia exhibitors jumped dramatically from 187 in 1994 to 290 in this year. Some manufacturers of system technology demonstrated how, with the aid of an application card, a desktop PC can be linked with an ISDN network for videoconferencing.
The number of foreign visitors this year was 1,20,000 and they came from all parts of the globe. While some countries like Japan(43) countries, South Korea(33), India(20), and China(16) had an increased participation, Singapore and Malaysia were pretty low key this year.
CeBit ’99
Several factors are helping to make CeBit ’99 a particularly a good show.Software, CeBit’s largest and fastest-growing sector , will be represented by a record 3,400 companies and take up four entire exhibit halls and part of a fifth. Visitors will find new development based on strategic alliances and licensing agreement with leading international system suppliers.
As Hannover prepares for the biggest-ever show to happen in the year 2000, the success of CeBit’99 would certainly be a launching pad.

Conclusion
Hannover, a well connected city by air, train and road, is an ideal location for such an mega exhibition. Its excellent transportation system has added to the mobility of the visitors. The exhibition could be approached from any corner of the city. It is then not surprising that the city as been referred as the city of International Fairs.
How this biggest trade show in the planet was ignored by Indian companies? It is surprising to know that only 20 Indian companies participates in this event. Among this also only 3 big companies Wipro, Aptech and L & T participated. Even these companies had no adequate space to display their products. To attract more participants from with in the country DOE in association with NASSCOM and IGEP would launch an awareness compaign about CeBit.
In participation for the World Exposition EXPO 2000, Deutsche Desse AG has initiated a major modernization program at the Hannover Exhibition Ground. Indeed this will further change the structure of CeBit in the coming years.
As we get set to open the doors to another CeBit it can be anticipated that it will again prove to be a productive event for all participants, exhibitors, and visitors alike.
