Harts High School Senior Nathaniel Collins was chosen from a field of 37 possible sights to serve as the JAG representative at the National Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C. He enjoyed a weekend of conferencing with other youths from around the United States.
Jobs for West Virginia Graduates (JAG) is an organization developed to help students in West Virginia to develop into productive, meaningful adults, whether in college or directly into the work force. The Harts chapter is coordinated by Mr. Donald Eric McCann. Marshall Williams serves as chapter president; Nathaniel Collins serves as vice-president. Jamie Carver serves as secretary. Other members include Angela Adkins, Annie Bailey, Cleveland Combs, Bert Davis, Paula Dean, Vanessa Hill, Ezra Keyser, Charles Justin Kovach, Kimberly Nelson Farmer, Priscilla Porter, Jeremy Queen, Joshua Workman, and Robert Workman.
Harts High School junior Crystal Howell was recently honored as the Lincoln County Family Resource Network 1999 Youth Vounteer of the Year. She was presented with a plaque and a $50 savings bond on April 21, at the Midkiff Community Center.
Harts High School junior Crystal Howell has been nominated as a National Counsel of Teachers of English (NCTE) competitor. She submitted a timed essay and another work she considered to be her best. Winners are to be notified in October, 1999.
Harts High School senior Nathaniel Collins was recently invited to attend Berea College in Lexington, Kentucky. He was offered a complete academic scholarship valued at more than $15,000 per semester.
The 1998 Harts High School Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) Conference representative was Crystal Howell. She attended a weekend seminar at the University of Charleston with other teens from throughout the state. HOBY is a world wide organization committed to turning today's youth into tomorrow's leaders.
Sophomore Kimberly Lynne Collins was chosen as the 1999 HOBY representative. She will attend weekend long conference at the University of Charleston in late May, 1999. She is involved in Key Club, TATU, and Peer Mediation. She also carries a 4.0 grade point average.
