Who-built this nation strong and great Where freedom had its birth
And flecked it o'er with cities fair Like gems of priceless worth?
Where once the virgin forest stood Now halls of learning stand,
And public schools in multitude Are broadcast in the land.
Was it by men who bow the knee to a foreign potentate
Who felled the trees and cleared the land, And reared those halls of state?
No. 'twas our sires, fearless and bold, Defying foreign foes,
Who made the waste and desert land To bloom just like the rose.
They hewed the giant forest down, And blazed the highways wide,
And built the halls of fame, which are The nation's boast and pride.
Now to our shores disgruntled hordes Ruled by a power remote
Would fain destroy our public schools And clutch at freedom's throat.
Freedom for which our fathers fought, Suffered and bled and die.
Think you we'll stand inertly by And see it swept aside.
No that heritage to us bequeathed No despot shall enthrall,
Till the last son in freedom's cause In its defense shall fall.
With life, it need be, we'll defend The source of education,
That gave such, men as Washington And Lincoln to the to the nation.
And those deluded miscreants, To a foreign power allied,
Can to their native shores return and may they there abide.
For the stars and stripes shall wave above our schools' o'er hill and dale,
And the liberty our fathers won forever shall prevail.
In our fathers' time the BIBLE Was read in the school each day,
Why not now as in days of yore And why was it taken away?
Let's put it back in the schools And have it read by all
And teach our children the Bible To heed the Savior's call.
