Jimboz Picks: Today's Best Players

Jimboz Picks: Today's Best Players

As a group, today's major leaguers are probably the best athletes to ever play the game. Today's players are simply bigger, stronger and faster than ever before. As a result, fantastic fielding plays and mammoth home runs have become almost common place.

The 1998 season brought us some truly memorable performances including the New York Yankees' incredible championship season, Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa both surpassing the long standing single season home run record, and Pedro Martinez' incredible pitching performance. It will be interesting to see what the 1999 season has to offer.

The following are my picks for the best players baseball has to offer today. Everyone has their favorites, and it was certainly difficult limiting my list to one at each position (OK, I've got two pitchers, but hey, it's my list). If you've got a different opinion, let me know!

1B - Mark McGwire
2B - Roberto Alomar
3B - Matt Williams
SS - Alex Rodriguez
OF - Ken Griffey Jr.
OF - Barry Bonds
OF - Tony Gwynn
C - Mike Piazza
P - Randy Johnson
P - Pedro Martinez
