April (21)

April & Jeremy August 2002

Mid 1996: Wow, what a kid. She will overextend herself to be perfect in what she does. She played trumpet in the Anderson High School band. The best female trumpet player they had. Not my words, but the other band students feel that way. She has been chosen to participate in an elite singing group at the school, as a member of the backup band. Can't wait to see how she swings that! She was also in Karate for 2 years and had just attained the solid yellow belt. Unfortunately Singers practices did not allow enough time for her to continue her Karate. Most of her grades are not real good but passing. She does very well in Math and Band. She decided to take too many Math related classes one year and finally began to understand how tough school can really be. Her only drawbacks are a poor attitude at home, and low self-esteem. That is why she pushes herself so hard at her other activities. So far I haven't had the problems from her that I have from her older sister, but she does like to test me. Special note: April also attended the birth of her little sister. She has a new respect for childbirth and has decided at this point that if she has children, she'll adopt.

UPDATE (November 13,1996): April was also at the birth of her new niece. She cried while Jennifer was giving birth, couldn't stand to see her sister in pain. Was a very touching experience. Since the birth April has not been as touched by her niece as she was at the birth. She can only tolerate the crying of babies for awhile. Probably a good thing for her to see the things we have to go through in having a child, will make her think twice about teenage sexual encounters. I would think she has not much time for those things anyhow, very busy with band and singers at this time of the year. Christmas functions all over the state to attend. And she is doing quite well with them I might add.

Her Children:

Jordyn 2 years old

More to come when I can find time to update this page.

UPDATE (May 13,1997): I tell you what when things run crazy they go hog wild here. April has gone way down hill in the last six months. That attitude of hers finally got to all of us. I have tried really hard not to let her go in the direction her older sister went, but she is just too jealous of Jennifer's new status in the world. She hates home and family now, feels that I have been too hard on her..and maybe I have. But I did not want to see her in the same place Jennifer was a year ago. Now she pretty much is, only not in trouble. She can't live here, we can't live with her attitude. She is now out of the house for a while, until we get some serious counseling done with her. The Shelter is not so bad a place to be, they have rules just like mine. Only difference between them and me....I punish an individual child for what she does, and the shelter punishes all children the same no matter what. Funny, April likes that for some reason. Anyway, she is still involved in her activities, and doing pretty good in school, just the home life that leaves a bit to be desired!! Let's pray that we all see the light soon and she can come home.

UPDATE (August 28,1997): Great News! April came home on August 18. After a full summer of weekend visits, counseling sessions, band practices, band contests, (Anderson High School placed 4th at the State Fair Competition, A real biggie, and a wonderful placement.) band camp and enough activities to keep her occupied, she has finally come back to boring old home. I have to admit her attitude still needs some adjusting but she is doing better. And so am I. April still has some adjusting to do with school this year too. School started this week and she is in the 11th grade in a new school. (Anderson High School closed it doors and was moved to the Madison Heights High School building.) She tells me that the class schedule is very different this year. 8 classes, 4 per day. classes are an hour and a half long. One day is called Anderson and the next day is called Indian. That means that one week she will have a set of classes for 3 days and another set for 2 days. The next week the class days reverse. So it takes 2 weeks to complete the cycle. In a way this good, especially for homework, they have 2 nights to work on it. Cool huh!? Any way, April is in Singers and Band again this year so she has a pretty full schedule. Now she wants to get a job too, don't know how she can possibly handle it all. One thing is for sure, she will never be at home. Keep your fingers crossed that things continue to go well for April at home.

UPDATE (May 24, 1998): You must have all kept your fingers crossed. April is still doing good. Discussion these days leans towards impending college. Only one year left of High School, then she is of to greatly further her education. She was once again in Singers and Band this year and also has held down a job working at Lee's Famous Recipe Chicken since late last Fall. Needless to say we do not see as much of her as we would like, with school work and social activities keeping her hopping all over town and sometimes even the state. She sure does make us proud. She has come a long way in the last year. She tries to tell me that I am the one that has changed...but I don't think it is me. It seems it is still my favorite pastime to scream and yell at kids all day long. Her goal at the moment is to get a copy of her birth certificate so she can get her learners permit. She simply must be able to drive when school returns in the Fall. Hehe hehe, I wish her luck too.

UPDATE (March 25, 1999) Just a short one here, she got her learners permit in February and is now anxiously awaiting April 5th, the day she can legally go get the driver's license. I don't think I will be able to contain her enthusiasm!! Not to mention only 2 short months until she graduates from High School and begins preparing for her entrance to College. Seems she has decided being a Public Accountant will be the way for her to start out her career. Wonder what ever happened to teaching children in 3rd world countries? Nothing really new going on with us at the moment. She continues to be a teenager (a bit rebellious at times) and I continue to attempt to be the mom (not always as successful as you would think). But things continue to run smoothly around the house for the most part.

UPDATE (July 24, 2000)  There is a lot that has gone in the last year and oh so many months.  April graduated from High School, received the governors Century 2000 Scholarship and started attending Ivy Tech Vocational School last fall.  She is studying Accounting and plans to continue her studies when she is finished at Ivy Tech by taking a 4 year full load at Ball State University.  Last December she gave birth to a healthy little boy she named Jordyn Lee. We finally have a boy in the family.  She currently lives with the father of her son and plays step-mom to his 3 year old son Austin.  (I have pictures of both of them on the Photo Album page)  April has done fairly well living on her own, attending school, and maintaining a job while also being a 'wife' and mother.  Full load for an 18 year old but we are quite proud of her.

UPDATE January 24, 2002 April and Jeremy officially became engaged a couple of days before Christmas. They have set their wedding date for September 20, 2002. Hopefully she will get her last semester of College in before the big day arrives. She is very proud of herself these days, all the studying, working part time to full time in jobs less meaningful to her and trying to raise her son all at the same time has finally culminated in a good job working as an Office Manager in an accounting department of a Nursing Home. This could prove to be quite the career for her. She tells me that she has the opportunity to grow with the job and there is a ladder to climb before she hits retirement age. I truly hope this proves to be the job for her.
