John Anderson's Amazing Death Cheating Tale

John C. Anderson joined the U. S. Army to fight in the civil war as soon as he was 17, the legal age. The unit mustered in on October 13, 1864 and by October 27, 1864 was engaged in a major battle with the enemy.

In this battle, John was hit by a mini ball in the chest. Ordinarily, this would have been a grevious wound, but fate and the lord was with John on this day. The mini ball struck his pocket watch and bible, which were in his shirt pocket and absorbed the force of the bullet. John was sore but other-wise O. K. His brother William wasn't quite as lucky. He spent time in the hospital when his tent was destroyed by a tree falling on it.
